all of these turned out so awesome =P
I just cannnot stop staring at that bear skull! :D
oh my gosh, the first thing I thought of when I saw the bear skull was Iorek's armor. it's amazing, really!
wow. I want to donate my skull to ART. :D
bearskull! holy crap, this one is bad-ass... Are you selling this one, out of curiosity? I'd want to hang on to it, it's very beautiful. If you ever do a smaller skull, like a cat in this style, I'd be interested in it. =3
I would wear that skull as a helmet if it fitted. XD
MAN that skull looks so cool!! I bet you could do a gallery show with a series of those.
Man, these skulls you're painting are fucking gorgeous. :D
How can you be such a jack of all trades? AUGH STOP IT.
Oh man! If I had a way to get more of them, I would totally ask you to do up one of my deer skulls. But they're precious to me since I have trouble attaining things like that. :\ Looks awesome, though!
holy crap. I want a steam punk skull. that is so awsome

I love these designs, but I think it'd be so much cooler if the clockwork pieces were attached in a manner giving them some sense of purpose. Perhaps a hole cut in the skull with the gears protruding from it. It's just my opinion, but I've always liked steam art in a manner that made you believe it could work.

OMG! SO GOLD AND NIFTY :D Where does one get a bear skull??
I love that these seem like armor for the animals, rather than painted skulls. I think having gears over the front of the eye sockets (like visors) would have been awesome, too!
I love the skulls! Have you had them laying around, or did you pick them up at some point? Think you'll be doing more at any point? Would you possibly be taking orders for them ever?
Awesome work.

Like early homo sapien art made from discarded UFO parts.
Very interesting.

WHAT??? no shit?
Woah...SWEET! :D Hahaaaa, thanks for the heads up!
Sorry to pop in so abruptly, but I just found out about this show myself...and then to see your work! I thought you might be interested...it's the Unusual Animals Call for Entries in the 930 Art Center in Louisville, KY. It seems like your work already fits the bill. The deadline is the 15th though, so if you're interested, sorry for the short notice. -m
Oooh, thank you! i'm going to see if i can make the deadline. THANK you for the heads up, i really appreciate it!
No problem! As I said, I immediately thought of this contest when I saw what you were doing. Best of luck!

Dangit, you're so fricken' awesome, it kinda pisses me off. :)
Say, could I make a suggestion or two on the steampunk skulls? Just some details that I think could be even better, but I don't want to come across as going all "cats with earlobes!" on you...it's your own schtick and of course your own say how these things go.
Dude YES please do! :D I can use all the help i can get!
Haha, cats with earlobes...snerk....

That earlobe thing is gonna go down in the anals of history, isn't it?
Anyway! I think the uncut rivets are cool, so poo on that guy. But a couple of other bit do cast an "off-period" glare my way. I know, it's a fantasy medium, and anything goes. The still and zinc bits aren't as cool as could be though...the electric conduit locknut for the wolf skull's third eye, and the two wood screws on the crown of bear skull...just seem kinda incongruous.
You planning on doing more of these? I might have some assorted brass hardware fiddly bits I'm no longer using.
Woah i didnt even think about that! Thats something id like to be aware of though, you know? Right now im pretty much just putting on whatever i think is aesthetically pleasing...but i didnt even think of what like...."fits" you know? From a gearhead/builder's perspective the parts are probably glaringly naive. It's sort of like a kid smearing glitter on some popsicle sticks at this point, haha. But i do like this train of thought with consistently fitting bits. Thanks man! and yeah im going to make more....whatever you have i can probably use! BRASSSSSS!! :D Any guidance you want to give on parts and what you think would fit together on a piece would be appreciated of course...
This post makes me feel joyful! Your painted skulls are thrilling in a prop way. I mean, talk about a piece to give a room or a costume a bit of character! Wow!
And I had no idea you'd be casting your monster-pendant design in resin as belt buckles. Just WOW! (That IS what you;re doing right?) Are you selling those?
Dyurrr, nevermind, I read the previous post!

Amazing work! One note on your copper rivets, though: you're supposed to cut them off (about 1/8" above the burr) and "peen" them over. i.e. Smack them with a hammer until the copper sort of blooms out like a mushroom cap and locks the whole assembly into place. My apologies if you already know this and were just making an aesthetic decision to leave 'em long. If that's the case, consider filing them to sharp points! Makes 'em look mean... Thanks for posting these kick-ass pix, and keep up the awesome work!
